Evaluation

1. What do you have learned while constructing your preliminary task?

Ever since i chose "Media Studies" in my A-level, i was very excited, especially about the practical work in it. For the foundation portfolio, i started with the preliminary task as advised by my teacher. I didn't know what was media studies all about and even the a, b, c .... of photoshop.

It was a very learning experience to try different ideas and implementing them on photoshop after some long efforts. Sometimes it happened that i had a wonderful idea in my mind but didn't know how to implement it on photoshop. I got some photoshop tutorials from youtube and also my teacher helped me a lot on it.

Moreover, trying different photoshop tools gave me an idea for which tool should be applied for what purpose. Later, when constructing the front cover, content page and the spread sheet, i found this experience to be an important one, without which i would have been unable to develop a satisfactory magazine design.

2. How did you use forms and conventions of the real media product in your media product?

My media product had to cover all sorts of music in it like pop, hip hop etc. So i was looking for such sort of front cover which could reflect the 'all sort' music. Displaying some picture of a band was not a good idea because it could reflect only one genre of music, either metal rock or some pop music. Therefore, i decided to take a picture of party DJ's on my front cover in order to represent that my media product can be used my people of all type of moods. One of the DJ was wearing headphones while other was wearing shades, thus, representing a typical DJ style.

The research that i did before developing my media product also gave me an idea on how my front cover should look like also suggested me to cover the highlights of the contents on it.

Also, the front cover mainly included the colors like black, white and other universal colors. Basically, the purpose of keeping the color scheme of the front cover, dim so as to represent the DJ's party environment. My media product was targeting a larger segment of audience between the age of 16-23. This was another reason i chose some DJ's picture as my front cover. The 'A' in the title 'MusikA' represent ALL. So i thought black color would be appropriate as it can be adjusted in any sort of music being a universal color.

So, in a nutshell, my media product does not develop any new form, rather it used the existing convention of color, design and picture.

3. How does your media product target the particular social group?

Basically, i have a picture of two party DJ's on my front cover and those are the main characters of my media product as their interview is covered as the main story. Hence my media product is targeting a large segment of people between 16-23 of age, who likes to go to parties and an interview of their favourite DJ's would be very tempting factor to buy this product.

Moreover, on the front cover as well as on the content page, it is highlighted
"Interview with DJ Nakul and DJ Xeeja". Deejay Nakul and Xeeja are among the most popular Deejays of the country. It creates interest in the target audience as this particular media product covers their interview exclusively. A clear idea is communicated to the audience about what they are going to see in the magazine when the highlighted text of the front cover is read. However, mostly those people who like party DJ's and their mixes are going to find it interesting.

4. Who would be the audience for your media product?

As discussed earlier, a picture of DJ’s on the front cover and their interview as the main cover story are only interesting for those people, who like that genre of music. So, obviously, youngsters of both genders between 16-23 years of age are targeted as audience. Furthermore, my media product has not stuck to only one music genre rather it covers a wide variety of music, so a large segment of youngsters are targeted.

5. How did you attract your target audience?

Dj Nakul and Dj Xeeja are amongst the most popular DJ's in the country. A big picture of both these Deejays on the front cover would be the most appealing factor for the audience who would be interested to look upon the 'Music Magazines' section in a bookshop.

An exclusive interview of both these Deejays is another tempting factor of this media product. These Deejays are grabbing more and more fans day by day and this would be their first ever exclusive interview, the target audience would be much excited to read out this interview.

Furthermore, i think that this media product is unique as compared to other music magazines. Unique in a sense that mostly the music magazines stick to a particular genre and the most common one is Metal Rock! But my magazine covers a variety of different genres of music, so youngsters of different tastes are going to buy this product.

This magazine will be distributed in famous bookshops all over the country and other stores, where the youngsters do have a visit, so that no youngster is left who hasn't accessed this magazine.
